View Full Version : Birdcage Render

Leon Carpenter felt inspired to do a rendering of the Maserati Birdcage after seeing a few renders of it on our Facebook page. It has been a long time, pre iRay, and he had to have some fun. This is all geo and emissives. The HDR has a brightness of 0.

Very nice! I like that HDR

The beauty about this shot is that no HDR was used....that's a physical environment :-)

I like the seem in the cement. Adds something nice. That's a pretty slick texture too. Makes for a very nice material. It's hard to find good cement finishes that have some detail, but aren't too grungy.

Very Nice! ;)
How long did it take to render? In which mode?

I'll have to let Leon chime in on that. I know it was done on his laptop which has a single GTX 480m. My guess would be Hybrid mode on that machine and he probably let it cook overnight.

I rendered it on just my 480M and it only took about an hour. The Birdcage model is pretty small, I only rendered 1000 passes and I didn't render very big. The Jeep rendering (found on our Facebook page) had to be done on my workstation as it had 6M triangles and was rendered at 10K. It took over night as it rendered in tiles at 3000 passes per.

2 very similar renders but 2 very different requirements.

An hour on a 480m is very impressive. Nice.

Good evening, I am sincerely sorry I was late ... It's strange I have a problem connecting to my account from my main computer!

David thank you for these specify the rendering time. I asked you that too because personally, with my GTX 570 and 480 of my studio, rendering time whenever there is a light (without HDRI) is really much longer ... Does this depend on the type of light or something else?

Would be cool to see a fully touched up HDRI + texture version of that birdcage.

You mean as a .bif file to play around with?

Don't tease me :D

That would be awesome BTW as well as maybe putting the Porsche back up to download for people to play around with.

We can get the porsche back up there i think....but not the birdcage. Look in the community in a couple of weeks and i'll see what i can do about the porsche

Thanks David. I'll keep an eye out for it.
