We have multiple users that want to use their local render queue to process jobs during the day.

We have found that if you use the CPU mode, the computer is still usable.

But when you toggle to either GPU or Hybrid, the computer is completely consumed by Bunkspeed and the Local Queue.

Our users are running Dell T5500 workstations/Win7/12 GB Ram/nVidia Quadro 4000 cards.

Is this what we can expect for performance?

What is the best option for Local Rendering?

That is correct for Any rendering function. If you are rendering with a piece of hardware, and the software is trying to give you an image as quickly as possible, it will use as close to 100% of it as possible. Using your GPU means you can no longer see things on your monitor quickly. Using your CPU would mean that things would process slower, but your video would still be processing fairly quickly. That is why you notice GPU more, because you see it directly.

One way around it is to get another video card and only let Bunkspeed render on 1 of them. But really, if the users use their time efficiently, they shouldn't have too much of a problem. Renderings don't take incredibly long, so sometimes it's just coordinating your coffee breaks with your rendering. Have a meeting scheduled? Send the render during that.

Aside from rendering during your downtime, the biggest downtime is leaving for the day. So send your files to the queue, and start that before you leave. If you aren't concerned about how much power you are using you can get the best quality possible by figuring out how many renderings you Will be sending, and just divide that by how long you will be gone (adding in some cushion of course). Have 12 renders to do, and you'll be gone for 14 hours? Send them at 1 hour each, and you'll be all set in the morning. Make sure and leave that extra time for opening and closing the files. That can take up to 10 minutes for some files.
