I recently upgraded my Solidworks from 2012 to 2013. Now I'm unable to import my Solidworks files into Shot for rendering. Am I doing something wrong or is the current Solidworks plugin not compatible with the newly released Solidworks 2013 ?

Many thanks in advance.

Dave

There is usually a delay between SW release and Bunkspeed catch up. I use a way around that. You can either export as .iges or us the .obj macro exporter that works very well.

I find STEP AP214 export works well, to the point I preferred it over previous SW plugins. Parts and bodies import individually plus, by using colour on the SW model, you can break parts and bodies down further. The orientation always seems to be good, only the scale is a bit weird. The models come in at scale 0.01 (so long as you don't apply auto-size) but they have to be scaled to 0.001 to be correct to the environment. No hassle given all the model mating options.

Wonderful. Thanks to you both for your prompt suggestions. The STEP AP214 sounds interesting, I'll give it a shot. (no pun)

Okay, Just tried the STEP AP214 export and it worked beautifully. Thanks again.

This is getting to be a problem now as my SW scene is getting bigger and bigger. David any updates on the status of SW 2013 converter?

I have some bad news unfortunately....By the looks of it we are not going to be able to issue a release with this update until our 2013 release which is currently scheduled for end of first quarter this year.

This is subject to change but i don't want to keep you guys in the dark.

Artem,

Agreed, this really puts a damper on efficient workflow.

Hope the plugin will come soon. Iges, step etc is a lot of work. a simple rendering costs a lot of time (material-part selection).

You can get an object exporter macro that converts your SW part/assembly into an .obj file that you can easily work with in BS.

Hi,

I was just wondering: are there any news on the release date of a service pack to support SolidWorks 2013?

Just merged the thread. We look to go BETA with the release that has SW 2013 support very soon. Within two weeks or so. Official release will be shortly after that

Hi David,
Has there been a status change to the release of Shot 2013 that includes SolidWorks plug-in?
File transfers are painful since last upgrade...
Cheers,
Walter

Agreed... Still waiting for a working SW plugin. Converting all my models to .obj is indeed painful.

I'm another SW2013 user that would like an update on this. Doing the "import/export dance" is becoming tiring.

The 2014 beta coming any day now has this issue solved.

That's great news. Although I get a bit of a déja vu feeling here. Looking forward to the official release.
